Occupational Therapy
HOW DO WE HELP
Pathways to Independence
At Bramacare, occupational therapy plays a vital role in supporting service users to safely reintegrate into the community and build a meaningful, independent life. This is a crucial stage of rehabilitation, as when a service user leaves Bramacare, they must be fully prepared to live independently. That’s why we take a structured and proactive approach to supporting service users in developing the skills, confidence, and resilience needed for long-term recovery and independent living.
Life Beyond the Diagnosis
Empowering Recovery Through Purposeful Living
Occupational therapy plays a central role in supporting individuals throughout their recovery from an eating disorder. From the very beginning, occupational therapists help establish the foundations of wellbeing by addressing physical health routines, supporting emotional regulation, and promoting social connection. As treatment progresses, occupational therapy contributes to multidisciplinary assessments that explore barriers to recovery, and delivers tailored, practical interventions that build daily living skills, coping strategies, and confidence. Through one-to-one sessions, group rehabilitation, and collaborative care planning, individuals are supported to regain a sense of control and purpose. As recovery deepens, occupational therapy empowers individuals to engage meaningfully in life again—whether through volunteering, education, hobbies, or community activities—fostering independence, participation, and long-term resilience beyond the treatment environment.
HOW DO WE HELP
Safe
We create a safe and supportive environment where individuals can gradually re-engage with everyday activities at their own pace. Structured sessions, both within Bramacare and in the community, are carefully guided to reduce anxiety, build trust, and ensure every step forward feels secure and manageable.
Empowering
Our occupational therapy programme empowers individuals by connecting them with activities that reflect their interests, strengths, and long-term goals. Whether through volunteering, education, or supported employment, we support meaningful progress toward independence, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Health
Physical health is a key focus of our approach. Therapeutic activities like swimming, yoga, and nature-based movement help support strength, body awareness, and emotional regulation. These sessions promote positive habits and a healthier relationship with daily routines and physical wellbeing.
Wellbeing
Emotional wellbeing is at the heart of our occupational therapy offer. Through creative therapies, mindfulness, and equine-assisted sessions, individuals are supported to express themselves, process experiences, and build resilience. These personalised activities promote healing and long-term self-care strategies.
Life Beyond the Diagnosis
Independent Living
We recognise that independent living is a key goal of rehabilitation, and we are committed to providing the right support to help service users successfully transition to life beyond Bramacare. Occupational therapy is not just about participating in activities—it is about ensuring that every individual is fully prepared to manage daily life on their own. This includes developing practical life skills such as financial management, meal preparation, and navigating daily responsibilities. Emotional resilience is also a key focus, helping service users build confidence in social interactions, problem-solving, and handling everyday challenges. At Bramacare, we take this stage of rehabilitation seriously, ensuring that each service user leaves with the skills, support, and confidence they need to maintain their recovery and live independently.
